Public Meeting - Zoning

March 10, 2026

NOTICE OF SECOND PUBLIC MEETING
FOR April 13th, 2026

TOWN OF RAINY RIVER

CONCERNING A PROPOSED ZONING BY-LAW AMENDMENT

The Town of Rainy River is initiating changes to the Zoning By-law which involve reducing the minimum floor area requirement for single detached dwellings and also introducing provisions to permit land lease community homes, all with minimum floor areas of 18.6 square metres (200 square feet) per dwelling.

The purpose of this Amendment is to reduce the cost of housing by lowering minimum floor area requirements, thereby reflecting the housing goals of the Provincial Planning Statement, 2024.

TAKE NOTICE That the Council of the Town of Rainy River will hold a public meeting at the Town Offices on Monday April 13th, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. to consider a proposed Zoning By‑law Amendment under Section 34 of the Planning Act to amend By‑law No. 1614-15, the Town of Rainy River Zoning By‑law.

IF A PERSON OR PUBLIC BODY would otherwise have an ability to appeal the decision of the Corporation of the Town of Rainy River to the Ontario Land Tribunal but the person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written submissions to the Corporation of the Town of Rainy River before the by-law is passed, the person or public body is not entitled to appeal the decision.

IF A PERSON OR PUBLIC BODY does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written submissions to the Corporation of the Town of Rainy River before the By‑law is passed, the person or public body may not be added as a party to the hearing of an appeal before the Ontario Land Tribunal unless, in the opinion of the Tribunal, there are reasonable grounds to do so.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION relating to the proposed Zoning By‑law Amendment is available upon request. Copies of current Zoning Bylaw, current amendments and the proposed bylaw are available on the website: https://rainyriver.ca/en/your-government/plans-policies/official-plan-zoning-by-law
