The town of Rainy River and its surrounding region offer a variety of exciting attractions and events to appeal to everyone. Given its unique geography, the region is home to one of the most diverse bird populations in the country, making it a bird watchers paradise, with species appearing in the Rainy River valley that are otherwise not found within thousands of kilometers. The following local attractions are also highly recommended:
Railroad Heritage Museum & 4008 Steam Engine: This fascinating museum explores the unique history of the town, with an emphasis on the centrality of the railroad in its formation and development. Including the exhibits, displayed inside a restored, antique railway passenger car, visitors can also explore the inside of a caboose. Perhaps most appealing is the restored steam engine, the 4008. All of this can be conveniently found next to the provincial tourism centre.
-Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre: Located within driving distance of Rainy River, Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung (the Place of the Long Rapids) is an ancient site of natural beauty and spiritual significance. As an important historical site for the First Nations people, including a traditional burial ground, it became a central trading site in the development of the region. The Visitors Centre offers galleries, a gift shop and a restaurant, acting as a gateway to the experiences that are available.

Railroad Daze: A highlight of the summer, this event celebrates the railroad heritage of the community with a full weekend of great family fun.
Walleye Tournament: This annual event draws sportsman and fishing enthusiast from all over. The Giant Pumpkin Festival: Celebrating the agricultural wealth of region, the Rainy River Giant Pumpkin Festival is a time of good fun, good food and amazing produce.

Rainy River Recreation Facilities: With access to soccer, baseball, volleyball fields, there is no end to summer activities. Indoor swimming is available all year round at the Baudette High School. The Recreation Centre includes a full sized, indoor skating rink for public skating and hockey. As an increasingly popular sport, the local curling club is active throughout the winter hosting bonspiels, as well as public curling.
Rainy River Marina: This beautiful riverside access point provides a boat launch and mooring facilities for fisherman and recreational boaters. It is also a picturesque site for picnicing, swimming and enjoying the beauty of the great Rainy River. A local canteen located at the docks provide food and drink as well.
